Tree Frog Beer was a fictional beer used by Gilbert Shelton in his "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" comics back in the late 60's and 70's. One of the characters, Fat Freddy, was amazed by television, and would do whatever the commercials said, usually because of a drug-induced comatose state (hence the "Freak Brothers").
One of the commercials he watched was for this "Tree Frog Beer," and one of the messages coming out of the speaker was "drink Tree Frog Beer and you'll have lots of girlfriends."
That is where I originally saw it.
Apparently it was originally a mock commercial on radio station WEBN in Cincinnati in its early days of the late 60's. Perhaps Shelton was giving them a tip of the cap, and where the junkies got the jingle.
That being said, it should be noted that it is now a Scotch Ale brewed by the Triple Rock Brewery & Alehouse in California and is rather tasty. Unfortunately, it did not illicit the aforementioned scores of girlfriends I had hoped it would. Looks like I'll just have to stick with money.

I wrote and produced the original Tree Frog Beer spoof spots at WABX in Detroit in 1970. I brought them with me to KLOS Los Angeles in '71, and gave a copy of them to Denton Marr , who took them with him to WEBN, where the Tree Frog became the station mascot.
